I started Arm's Reach in 2022 with a clear intention: to create fragrance rooted in the Black experience. To capture memory before it is spoken. To translate lived experience into scent you can recognize and carry with you.This is the work I chose. One shaped by reflection, care, and the moments I have spent listening to people tell me who they really are.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Chauncey Brown

Thirteen years in education taught me that the most important stories are the ones that go unnamed, the moments people carry quietly, the rooms they walk into and immediately calculate, the belonging they build anyway, without permission and without announcement. I did not set out to make fragrance, but when I started asking who gets to tell stories and whose interior life gets treated as worthy of luxury, scent became the most honest answer I found. I am a qualitative researcher by training. Harvard sharpened the questions. Mexico and Ghana showed me how scent moves across distance, carrying memory and culture in ways that words sometimes cannot. The name came from something people back home used to say when they found out where I went to school. You went to Harvard and you're right here, within arm's reach? I took that as the thesis. The highest luxury is proximity to your community, not elevation above it. That question became the foundation of Arm's Reach, the first prestige fragrance house built from the inside, by us, for us. Every scent profile begins with direct community interviews and qualitative research into Black interior experience. The methodology is the foundation. The community is the moat.
